Walmart Savings Catcher: Announcing BIG Changes to How it Works
Update: Wal Mart has announced that Walmart Savings Catcher will change (and not in a good way!)
Last fall, Wal-Mart introduced a free app that allows you to scan your Walmart receipt and they’ll price match stores nearby for you. This breakthrough idea made it so that you could shop at Wal Mart and be guaranteed the lowest price. And you didn’t have to do anything more than scan your receipt. No price comparing, no bringing in ads from other stores, no standing in line at the service center to get your money back. Super easy, and the app is free. What’s not to love?
Sadly, Walmart has just announced that they’re making BIG changes to their Savings Catcher. Not only are they removing whole departments (such as grocery!) they’re also limiting the stores that they compare to. So, they will not be comparing to drug stores such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid anymore. They’ll also limit the dollar stores that they compare their prices to, such as Dollar Tree, the 99 Cent Only Store and Family Dollar. This is not good news and will likely have a negative impact on the amount of money you get back through Walmart Savings Catcher.
- No more price-matching produce
- No more price-matching bakery
- Limited comparison to other retailers (e.g., removing drug stores and limiting dollar stores)
Walmart Savings Catcher compares your receipt to advertised prices from top stores in your area, and if it finds a lower advertised price, you get the difference on an eGift Card. All you have to do is enter your receipt and Walmart does the work for you.
