Zaycon Foods Chicken Breast – Review and Giveaway

Zaycon Foods contacted me to ask if I’d like to try their farm-fresh chicken breasts.  This isn’t something you can pick up at your local market though. And, that’s part of why it’s so good.  Keep reading, and then find out how you can enter to win a 40 lb box of fresh chicken breasts for your family!

Zaycon Foods has a unique and really smart business model.  They buy in bulk, directly from the farm.  They have events going on all over the country where you can stop by and pick up your order.  If there’s not an event near you right now, chances are there will be soon!  My pickup spot was about 20 minutes away, but well worth the drive, and we planned to be over that way anyway. I wasn’t sure what to expect when they said pickup would be organized and quick, and you never even have to get out of your car. We pulled up to the huge refrigerated truck which was nearly empty by the time we picked up. It was sitting in an empty parking lot, where they’d contracted space to hang out for the afternoon. The guys were courteous and professional. Each location has a limited supply of chicken.  Your products are reserved for you when you order online, and ready and waiting when you get there to pick up. A little unconventional, but that’s why you’re saving so much money!

But, how does it taste?  So, we got home and I cracked open the 40 lb. box of boneless, skinless chicken breast.  It was divided into four bags.  In the bags are lots of chicken breasts.  Each is a full breast which needs to be cut in half.  Personally, I cut them in half again because they’re so big!  I sauteed one whole breast (4 pieces) in plain water and added a little sea salt and cracked pepper.  It was plenty to feed my family of 4 with a side of potatoes and a side of corn.  This chicken is not like what you buy at your local store.  I can’t even explain how fresh this chicken is!! The taste is phenomenal.  There isn’t a subtle difference – there is a HUGE difference from what you buy at a supermarket.  We were savoring every bite.  It tastes substantially better than frozen chicken you buy at a grocery store that has probably sat for weeks (or longer?) in the freezer, losing taste and texture and who knows what. I’m not a food critic, but I know that this tastes a hundred times better than that.

So, I have 40 lbs. of chicken, I have to freeze some, right?  But then it’ll be frozen and not fresh, right?!  Well, it’s been 3 weeks since I picked up the chicken. I froze it that night after cutting it and using my Foodsaver to vacuum seal into family size portions. It still tastes incredibly fresh even after thawing!! Still way better than anything I can buy at a store.

But what about the price? I’m having a hard time saying this, but the price isn’t the best part. There, I said it. With Zaycon Foods Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts, the TASTE is the best part. But, the price is amazing!  They’re selling this boneless, skinless chicken breast for only $1.49 a pound!!  I am always on the hunt for low-priced chicken breast, and at least in my area you rarely find it for under $1.99 a pound!!  Seriously, I stocked up once at a supermarket I don’t normally shop at because chicken breast was on sale for $1.49 a pound.  My poor daughter kept gagging at the smell at the meat counter (it really did stink!) and the chicken was a really strange texture and cut. We didn’t go back, even though the price was good.  After all, we didn’t like the product, so we weren’t saving anything.

Imagine getting this high quality product for a price you can’t beat! You’ve really got to check this out!

How they do it: they keep overhead costs down because they don’t have stores. They’re able to cover each location with just a few people. They buy wholesale and only get what they need, so there’s no waste. Bulk buying power means lower prices. It isn’t packaged individually, it’s sold in bulk which keeps the cost of packaging and processing down. And, they sell it right away, meaning they don’t have to pay to store it or keep it frozen, so that’s more savings.  All of this not only equals low cost, it equals super fresh, super tasty product.
