Whirl Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion – Review

I was given a Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™ to review and tell you about.

Like most people over the age of 12, I’ve been using a mouse for a long time. And, the thought of having to change wasn’t terribly appealing.  But, I decided to give it a whirl (just so I could say that! Ha, just kidding!)  Another thing I’ve been doing for years is suffering from a condition called tendinitis, which is inflammation of the tendon – a string-like thing that connects muscle to bone from the elbow to the wrist.  Unlike carpal tunnel which is when the nerve in your wrist gets pinched, tendinitis isn’t usually surgically repaired; you have to let it heal.  That can be a long process. And, the joy of it all is that it can (and does!) come back.  On top of that I have arthritis.  Oh, the humanity!

What would a Gimmie review be without a tangent?  Note to self: when a worker’s comp doctor greets you by saying, “Hi, How are you?”  Do not, under any circumstances, answer: “fine, how are you?”  It could get your case dismissed.  Heaven help you if there’s weather to discuss.  *giggle*

Back to the review. It goes without saying that a wireless mouse is cool. Especially for a laptop.  I mean, doesn’t it just make sense to not have to deal with a long cord when you’re trying to be all streamline and portable?  Of course it does.  I take a commuter train to work (which I’m on right now as a matter of fact), and I think of all the hazards that might surround having a corded mouse in close quarters like these.  Why, it’s just irresponsible at this point.  But the Whirl Mini is much more than just a cute wireless mouse.  It’s a mouse on a perch!  It’s like a mouse crossed with a joystick!  It’s like floating on air!

You can finally say goodbye to aches and pains while using a computer mouse. Whether you are right- or left-handed, you can enjoy the unique on-the-go experience of our Award Winning computer mouse that experts from MacWorld Magazine, PC World, GQ Magazine, Good Housekeeping and many, many more all agree will forever change your mousing experience!

I plugged this crazy hybrid in and it loaded right up, without any fuss.  Trying to get the battery case back on was a bit cumbersome, but I hadn’t had any coffee yet.  It really wasn’t difficult with a little finesse.   Did I mention it has a long battery life?  That’s one thing that I always look for with any wireless mouse.  The older generation mice weren’t great for that. They’d go through batteries every few months which could get expensive. But the newer ones can last up to a year or more.  And, the batteries were included with this one.  Yay!

The perfectly portable Whirl™ Mini Notebook Mouse with ErgoMotion™combines the remarkably natural comfort of the patented ErgoMotion™ pivot system with the three most sought-after computer mouse features: Up to 800-dpi hi-def laser sensitivity, 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity and extra long battery life.

All of that is nice, but it’s not what the Whirl Mini is all about.  The real draw is the way it moves.  The first of its kind – it pivots, rotates, swivels… whatever you want to call it.  It moves with you. The natural movement makes it a much healthier thing for your hands, wrists and arms. When you click, it pivots downward slightly, moving with your hand.  When you use the scroll wheel, it moves backwards slightly with your wrist.  It took a little getting used to at first.  I’d click and the mouse would move and fly across the screen.  You may have noticed some gobbledygook posted on Gimmie. Yes, I’m blaming the mouse.  Ha! Okay, that didn’t happen.  Actually, it’s easy to use and the change from a regular mouse is subtle.  I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge difference, but my hands aren’t as tired or sore as they sometimes are.  And that’s a good thing!

The ErgoMotion™ pivot system reduces your risk of Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI) by adding motion! The magic of the function is how it naturally adapts to your hand motion rather than the other way around!

In summary, I like this mouse a lot.  As far as mice go, it’s a good one. And, it has the added benefit of being ergonomic in ways no other mouse can claim.
