Radius Toothbrush – Review
Radius Toothbrush contacted me and asked if I’d like to review a few of their innovative toothbrushes. The original was so innovative that it is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institute Museum of Design!! I chose a child’s toothbrush and the traditional (had to see what’s on display at the Smithy!!) They arrived in a small box, without much fanfare. After all, they’re toothbrushes. And, really… who buys toothbrushes online? But then, who puts a toothbrush in a museum?? It all seems sorta strange.
But then I started thinking about it. Toothbrushes may not be the most glamorous item, but aren’t we all intimately involved with ours? I mean, the thought of sharing mine sends shivers up my spine (eeeeeek!!) And when buying one, I’ll walk right out of a store that doesn’t have just the right type. Let’s face it: our toothbrushes are an unsung hero that we’re secretly passionate about and intimately dependent on. And now that I think about it, I’m not really sure I was open to trying something new until this came along. Even if it’s just for a few minutes a few times a day, our toothbrushes are important. I’m sure I don’t have to up-sell the idea that a person’s smile is really important, and often among the first things noticed when encountering new people.
I’ll admit, I was intrigued by the unusual shape of the Radius Toothbrush. I noticed they specify mine is for right-handed users, and because of the angled handle you’d need to get the proper one. The handle is much easier to grip than my old Reach toothbrush, and fits really well in my hand. It reminds me of a dental tool. Now, I was a little intimidated because the head is 3x as wide as my old brush. I thought I might choke on it until I used it (lol). It’s actually not too big at all. The oversize brush makes it so easy to reach every nook and cranny of your teeth. The head is big enough that you’re brushing your teeth and gums at the same time. That’s something my dentist is constantly reminding me to do: take care of my gums!! And the bristles are very dense. It’s like the Egyptian cotton of toothbrushes! Their website says, “6500 nylon bristles with a very high tuft count – removes plaque more effectively.” I don’t know how to explain this except to say you’ve GOT to try it for yourself. After a few minutes my mouth felt so clean.
My little girl loved her kidz version of the Radius Toothbrush. It’s just like Mommy’s but smaller. She loves to brush her teeth, and was thrilled to get such a special and unique toothbrush. She’s had toothbrushes with princesses and cartoon characters, but this one is so grown-up looking!! I’m thrilled that it’s big enough to fit in her small hand, and she can easily maneuver it around her mouth – much better than her old toothbrush.
They have a great selection too! There’s one with a timer to make sure you’re brushing the full 2-minutes recommended by dentists. One has a handle made from recycled dollar bills! There are lots of bright colors, personal & travel cases and they even have floss made from pure, natural silk with natural beeswax!! All this for prices comparable to toothbrushes you’ll find in stores. And, the original doesn’t need to be replaced for 9 months! That’s 3x longer than regular toothbrushes, so you’re saving money!
