As Seen On TV! We have all seen these advertisements, and possibly ordered items from them. If you have purchased a Snuggie, Magic Mesh Door or other “As Seen On Tv” items, then you may be receiving a refund check for some of your purchases.
The FTC has that since 1999, Allstar used deceptive advertising to sell their”buy one get one” products. They failed to disclose all the costs for these products. For example, the company promised that it would “double the offer” for consumers if they just paid “processing and handling fees.” While consumers were led to believe that they would then be getting two $19.95 products for “less than $10 each,” in fact, the total cost with the undisclosed $7.95“processing and handling” fees jumped from the advertised price of $19.95 to $35.85, according to the complaint.
Allstar Marketing Group, a direct marketing company selling “as-seen-on-TV” type products such as Snuggies and the Magic Mesh door cover has agreed to pay $7.5 million to the Federal Trade Commission for consumer restitution to settle FTC charges in connection with its deceptive “buy-one-get-one-free” promotions.
The Federal Commission has commenced mailing out 218,254 refund checks totaling more than $7.2 million to people who bought products marketed as “buy-one-get-one-free”. The products that are in this settlement are Snuggies, the Magic Mesh Door, and other “as-seen-on-TV” type products. Consumers who bought products marketed by Allstar Marketing Group, LLC will receive checks averaging $33.14.
Checks are being mailed this week and the check should be received this month. They are to be cashed within 60 days or they are void.
There are no forms to be filled out.
