Casa Mexicana Authentic Seasoning Mix – Review and Giveaway
The folks at Casa Mexicana asked me to review their authentic seasoning mixes, and tell you guys about them.
They have four seasoning mixes available: Beef Tacos, Chicken Chipotle Tacos, Chicken Fajitas, and Fish Tacos. With Cinco de Mayo just around the corner, what better time to whip up some authentic Mexican cuisine at home? Come to think of it, when ISN’T a good time for authentic Mexican cuisine at home?!
Being the rebel chef that I am, I first used the Fish Taco seasoning to make shrimp tacos rather than fish. Wow! I wish they’d sent me more than one. I could not get enough of the smoky chipotle chili flavor. It was scrumptious! And, the best part, it was super easy to make. I have a signature shrimp scampi that I make (learned from my late father-in-law who was the King of cooking seafood!) I can’t get over how much easier this was to make, but the results – an amazingly yummy meal – were the same.
My 5 year old LOVES shrimp, and she ate the Fish Taco seasoning I used on shrimp although we did have to pick some of the seasoning off before she’d eat it. Even at that she still thought it was pretty spicy. I was ready to volunteer to eat the seasonings off of her shrimp. Just cuz I’m a helpful mom like that.
Next I made the Chicken Fajitas. I marinated chicken breast in the seasoning as instructed, and then grilled them. It was wonderful! Whenever we eat at our favorite restaurant, we always order fajitas. I hate to say it, but they’ve got nothing on this seasoning. It was so good! And, instead of paying $19.95 for one (we share one order), you can make this dish for about $10 and it feeds 4. I got the chicken breast on sale for $0.99 a pound and used 2 pounds, plus $1.99 for the seasoning mix and add an onion, a few tortillas, plus a side of rice and beans. Plus it was quick and easy. You really can’t beat that.
They do note that the Chicken Chipotle Tacos are a bit on the spicy side and may be too hot for kids to enjoy. The Beef Tacos are also noted to be “hot.” I haven’t made them yet for that reason, not to mention the fact that I haven’t had enough sit-down meals to prepare since receiving them. But I’ll be sure to update when I try them.
The new line of Casa Mexicana® seasonings retail for $1.99, serve four people, and come in four completely authentic Mexican flavors. Each seasoning mix packet features all-natural and easy to prepare instructions. Casa Mexicana® is product of its top-quality, all-natural spices and seasonings containing no MSG, no food coloring, no chemical additives and no artificial flavors.
They feature four mixes:
Beef Tacos (Barbacoa) – In Mexico this dish is called “barbacoa” and is known for its juicy, appetizing taste. Traditionally cooked with a dozen different spices for hours in a pot underground, this seasoning delivers the same robust flavors, quickly and easily.
Chicken Chipotle Tacos (Tinga) – This traditional dish from Puebla, where it is locally known as “tinga”, is spicy and infused with chipotle’s smoky flavor.
Chicken Fajitas – A typical dish originating in Northern Mexico served on a sizzling hot metal plate. Ideal for the busy family, chicken fajitas can be made very quickly.
Fish Tacos – This mix re-creates the traditional and delicious recipe of fish tacos from Acapulco, “pescado a la talla”, with hints of smoky chipotle chilies, paprika, coriander and garlic.
Besides being healthy, cost-effective and authentic, they are really very yummy. I wish I could invite all my fans over to try it, but instead Casa Mexicana has agreed to give one lucky Gimmie fan their own set of Casa Mexicana mixes!!
