Are there legitimate survey sites online?
There are so many scam survey sites, it’s hard to know what’s real. Here’s what need to know in order to avoid wasting your time.

How real survey sites work
What happens is real companies such as Tide or SharkNinja employ teams of market analysts, and in many cases they hire Public Relations companies, to determine what they should do in developing new products and marketing to end consumers. That’s where survey companies, such as Toluna, Pinecone Research and others (see our whole List of Recommended Survey Sites here) come in to the picture. These companies (Tide & SharkNinja to name a few) hire legit survey companies like the ones we recommend to provide the information they need to make product improvements and effectively sell them.
For example, SharkNinja – or their Public Relations or Marketing company – might contact Toluna and say “hey, find out who buys the most vacuums and what they want.” Toluna has a team of experts who study all kinds of industry trends, then determine that women age 24-48 buy the most vacuums (I’m making this up to explain how survey sites work). Then, they reach out to their membership (in this example: the people who take surveys on Toluna), looking for that demographic: women age 24-48. They pay those people who take the survey – either in points to redeem, or cash. Toluna gets paid by the company itself for obtaining the research and information, and for compiling it and explaining it in a way that the company needs. They might be figuring out what features to build into their next vacuum, or maybe even what it should look like or what color would be most popular, or how they should market it to be most effective. And the best part, when they’re testing new product features they often ask survey site members (like you & me!) to do the product tests! That means awesome free products – and sometimes they also pay you for your opinion in addition to giving you the product to try!
So, how do you find real legitimate survey sites?
The best way is word of mouth. There are so many survey sites, it’s hard to tell what’s real. The ones that have you complete offers are generally not the best ones. Although you can earn money on some of the better ones, that’s not a reputable way to have a survey membership.
The best way to find legitimate survey sites is to check out the ones we’ve reviewed in our List of Recommended Survey Sites

NOTE: not everyone will get the same surveys. They are based on your demographics, your location, age, experience, family, etc.
